Studio so is a Seattle-based design studio offering architectural services to residential and commercial clients. We practice at the intersection of rationality and poetics, with an incessant search for authenticity and truth, and believe simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication. Maintaining clear, open, and proactive communication with the client throughout the entire design process is critical to achieve a product that meets our standards, in addition to engaging directly with consultants, fabricators, builders, the trades and the craftspeople alike. Each solution responds specifically to the site, context, and people for whom we’re designing. Every approach is based upon a set of principles rather than a catalog of presupposed answers. We do not seek originality for the sake of originality; originality is the byproduct of research and design-thinking.
About
Jacob Southard founded Studio So, PLLC in 2021 and is a registered architect in the state of Washington (License No. 21020041). Since 2014, Jacob has worked as a project architect in offices between Cape Town, Metro Detroit, and Seattle. He graduated Cum Laude in Lawrence Technological University’s regionally-esteemed College of Architecture and Design and, since then, Jacob has won an international design competition, contributed to a Yahoo! Finance editorial, and has had featured projects in AIA events.
Jacob has little interest in trends or fashions or -isms that come and go and will continue to do so. Instead, he strives to: accomplish timeless design, understand the things that cannot be translated through photographs, and distill ideas to their essence.
